First of all, you’re wearing new shoes.

Shine isn’t a rule, but you’ve made it up

to feel ready.  Reading signs that cross

arms, or extend hands.  The next person

also asks why you want a change.

Scenery has fallen to your ankles you reply.

Armed managers patrol weekends.

You refrain from using euphemisms

or fouls, exaggerate willingness

to attire to new rules.  The ache is a secret

you suspect in others as well as yourself.

Snarls have invaded your boundaries.
