Michael Magee
War Sonnet

leaf the bombs to fall of man to autumn
ought to manage laugh of mobs to veal
afghans full of holes are shawls shalom
Ma lashes all our soles––fearful aghast

gas ceiling houses stones to pay for piping
an imps rough yap snores and the lease sags
rack bawls crack eyes drift would be nice for seeing
geese feces tread on shackled Slav care package

whiff swings October toward the “vast expanse”
snap xerox thin mint robots sewn to pillows
scratch power tickets packed in lucky smoke strikes
the skies the limit––you’ll cap the warp you hatched

ask asphalt for its asking price o hold out
to do list turfs its given for a casket
